Health & Safety

STAFF-CHILD RATIO

Our highest priority is the safety and well being of our students, so we follow strict child-to-staff ratios set forth by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

SECURE ENVIRONMENT

The entrance to our preschool is unlocked only during morning drop-off time. At any other time a staff member must let you into the building.

PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF

Each child must be signed in and out of our attendance log- noting signature and time. Photo I.D. is required of persons not known to staff. The preschool keeps an updated file of names, addresses and phone numbers of people authorized to pick up children in case of an emergency. No child is released without proper authorization. Ever.

INCIDENT REPORTS

Should your child have a serious disciplinary issue during the school day a report will be sent home detailing the situation. Please sign this form and return it to be kept on file.

ACCIDENT REPORTS

Should your child be injured during the school day a report will be given to you at pick-up time. Please sign and return it so it may be kept on file. Parents will be notified immediately about any injury their child sustains while at school and medical care will be sought if required.

HEALTH HISTORY AND IMMUNIZATION

PSP maintains pertinent health histories (such as allergies, chronic conditions or susceptibilities) as well as immunization records and emergency contacts so that they are easily accessible in case of emergency.

PREVENTATIVE MEASURES

If a PSP staff member contacts parents regarding signs or symptoms that might indicate a contagious disorder, we may elect to remove a student from common areas or classrooms until parents arrive. A child that is found to have a fever, Head Lice or a gastrointestinal illness must be picked up immediately.

ILLNESS & INFECTIOUS DISEASE

Out of consideration for all, we request that sick children remain at home. Your child should be kept home from school if they have any of the following: Chicken Pox, Influenza, Whooping Cough, Strep Throat, Scarlett Fever, sore throat with fever, severe coughing, body rash with fever, vomiting, diarrhea, pinkeye or if they are too irritable or lethargic to participate in routine activities. Students must be kept at home for 24 hours after fever, vomiting, or diarrhea. In the event that the student has been placed on antibiotics for a contagious illness, the student must receive the 24-hour dosing requirement of medication prior to returning to school. A child with Head Lice may NOT return to school without a physician’s release form. Any open wounds, lesions or rashes must be covered with clothing and/or bandages.

MEDICATION

Pleasant Street Preschool can dispense over-the-counter and prescribed medication after a parent/guardian has filled out the required MEDICAL DISPENSATION RELEASE FORM. The medication must be labeled with the child’s name and in its original container. It must be given to the director, stored in a locked box in the office and taken home by the parent/guardian at the end of EACH day. It may not be stored in the child’s backpack or cubby. All medication must be dispensed in accordance with the instructions found on the MEDICAL DISPENSATION RELEASE FORM. We are NOT allowed to give any medication to a child who is under the age noted on medication instructions without a physician’s order.
