OUR PROGRAM
PSP’s Kindergarten Program is based on the same nurturing, hands-on, active learning approach as our Preschool and Pre-Kinder Programs. Our Kindergarten class is limited to ten students so that they can receive individualized instruction and attention. We believe that culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate teaching encourages children to move more than to sit still, to speak more than to listen, and to ask questions more than to repeat answers. It allows students to bring their curiosity to school and to contribute their ideas to the study of creative, meaningful, theme-based curriculum unique to their own kindergarten class.
OUR CLASSROOM
We maintain a flexible, comfortable classroom that encourages active play and exploration through the use of interest centers like the Math Area or the Writing Area so that we can meet the many different needs and learning styles that our students bring to PSP. We also offer whole-class, small-group and individual instruction. All our materials and equipment are of the highest quality and are designed to engage the imagination and pique the interest of our students.
OUR CURRIULUM
Keeping in mind that kindergartners must master a prescribed set of essential skills and concepts, we feel that the best learning environment for them is one in which they can actively participate by manipulating objects and by expressing their own ideas in many curricular areas, such as language arts (reading, writing, and phonics), mathematics, science, social studies, geography, Spanish, music, art, and Sign Language. Our lessons are also designed to meet and exceed local school district standards: want to see a copy of our lesson plans or curriculum map? Just ask!
SPECIAL CLASS
Children will attend Special Class once per day: Spanish is taught on Monday and Wednesday, Sign Language on Tuesday and Thursday and Music is taught on Friday. Playground time and organized games are offered several times throughout the day.
